Food Safety Management System briefly known as FSMS is not very well implemented in India. Most of the packed food products food in the local markets are coming from the unorganised sector without any assurance for safety. While some companies are getting AGMARK certification for the quality of the product in India which will be discussed in the next post. Products which are exported get the approval for food safety from APEDA- Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. Also products which are exported are getting certified for HACCP and other required standards like IFS, BRC, AIB etc., based on the importing country.
Though certification bodies in India is not being used by all the food companies in India, there exists a considerable number of well known bodies and certification agencies helping some food export companies in India. Bureau Veritas one of the leaders in the field of food safety finds its place in India also with branches all over India.
